イスラエルのヴァイオリニスト、指揮者、音楽指導者。

20世紀における最も偉大なヴァイオリニストの一人。

幼年期に小児麻痺のため下半身不随となり、車椅子生活を余儀なくされる。

1963年、17歳でカーネギー・ホールに出演、64年、レーヴェントリット国際コンクールで史上最年少優勝。その後、グラミー賞、エミー賞など多くのレコード賞も獲得。

93年にはスティーヴン・スピルバーグ監督の映画「シンドラーのリスト」の主題を演奏。
