80年初頭に「ダウン・タウン・ブギウギ・バンド」、80年代中期から1990年代初頭に「竜童組」、90年代中期から後期に「宇崎竜童 & RUコネクション with 井上堯之」を率いる。ソロ活動も。

妻は作詞家の阿木燿子で、｢作詞阿木・作曲宇崎｣のコンビは山口百恵の全盛期を支えた。
