アメリカのアルト・サックス奏者。

「モダン・ジャズ（ビ・バップ）の父」と言われる。

愛称は「ヤードバード」のちに「ヤード」「バード」とも。ニューヨークのジャズ・クラブ「バードランド」はこれに由来。ジョージ・シアリングの”Lullaby of Birdland”（バードランドの子守唄）やウェザー・リポートの”Birdland”といった曲も。

1988年製作の映画『バード』(クリント・イーストウッド監督でその生涯が描かれている。
