【リオデジャネイロ＝浜砂雅一】日本が一番乗りで出場を決めたサッカー・ワールドカップ（Ｗ杯）ブラジル大会は１２日、開幕まで１年となった。
開催都市の一つ、リオデジャネイロのコパカバーナ海岸には同日、開幕までの残り時間を刻むカウントダウン時計が設置された。
時計は緩やかなＳ字で５メートル大。同国の有名建築家で昨年末死去したオスカー・ニーマイヤー氏が生前にデザインした。記念式典には、「サッカーの王様」の愛称で知られる元ブラジル代表のペレ氏も参加、「すばらしいＷ杯へのスタートを切った」と話し、サポーターを沸かせた。

オスカー・ニーマイヤー氏は近代ブラジルの象徴のような人。自由な曲線を生かした建築は近未来的。また98歳で秘書と結婚するなど生き様もすごかったようで。
